Desiderai sempre le Missioni Estere in generale; ma il desiderio della Missione dell’Indiani mi è nato al sentire che v’era qualche speranza pei Nostro di andarvi, mi si accrebbe al ponderare alcuni tratti della lettera che Vostra Paternità scrisse a noi tutti, la devozione poi che indegnamente professo al glorioso Apostolo delle Indie me lo accese, e me lo accende in maniera che non mi posso contenere di non dimandare ogni giorno a Dio al più presto possibile l’esecuzione. Mi sono indotto poi a farle adesso palesi queste mie brame, non già per tedio del ministero santissimo ch’esercito di Maestro, cui sono veramente pronto ad esercitare sino alla morte; ma per aver letto nelle nostre Storie parecchie volte esservi stati scelti per le Missioni estere giovani studenti, e persino Novizj, il che non mi toglie affatto la speranza di ottenere anche presto la sospirata Missione, per eseguire quel che dice Vostra Paternità nella sua lettera, che quei che desiderano tali Missioni le chieggano, per mostrare che i desiderj delle Missioni estere esposti in iscritto a Vostra Paternità non mi si sono già estinti, ma si accalorano, ed infine perchè ancor questa lettera mi serva di stimolo a profittare in virtù, massime nella Mortificazione interna, ed esterna che mi accorgo essere indispensabilissima per un Missionario. Se Vostra Paternità si degnerà di farmi concepire anco una sola speranza della esecuzione del mio ardente desiderio, sarà indicibile la consolazione che ne proverò, e mi sarà come sprone pel mio profitto spirituale.
