<p><span>La mia indegnità mi ha proibito di esporre a v<em>ostra </em>p<em>aternità </em>un mio desiderio, che sono due anni mi nacque in cuore, ed è ito avanzandosi di giorno in giorno. Or fatto animoso e dalla lunghezza del tempo, che vivo con esso, e dall’essere oramai giunto a tale, che non so d’altro pensare, né altra cosa sinanco sognare che questa mi arrischio a manifestarglielo, perchè v<em>ostra </em>p<em>aternità </em>cui ispira il Signore, su di ciò m’indicasse il suo volere, che credo esser quello di Dio. La missione al monte Libano è il mio desiderio: correi, faticando in quell’ardua impresa, menar la mia vita che debbo solamente spendere per Dio. Che se egli il Signore mi desse grazia di spargere i sudori non solo, ma eziandio il sangue per lui, mi stimerei sopra modo felice. Così solamente, salvo l’ubbidire, io potrei in qualche maniera soddisfare a Dio pei gravi e molteplici miei peccati. Parlai di ciò al p<em>adre </em>prov<em>incia</em>le, ed egli mi animò in prima alla virtù, poi a scrivere a v<em>ostra </em>p<em>aternità, </em>e allo studio dell’araba favella; il quale studio, benchè senza maestro nè libri adatti, io con sommo piacer cominciai.
