<p>Scrissi a V<em>ostra</em> P<em>aternità</em> M<em>olto</em> R<em>everenda</em> sei anni addietro, mentre io era ancora studente di Teologia, ed esposi il mio desiderio delle missioni straniere; e V<em>ostra</em> P<em>aternità</em> per mezzo del P<em>adre</em> Ferrari allora nostro Prov<em>incia</em>le si compiacque rispondermi, che a suo tempo avrebbe presente la mia Domanda. Ma poco dopo, essendo sopraggiunto da grande infermità di petto, dovetti deporre questo pensiero. Ora sono interamente sano, anzi insegno e predico con libertà; e ne sono debitore, dopo Dio, a varii Santi, ai quali mi sono raccomandato, e specialmente al N<em>ostro</em> S<em>anto</em> P<em>adre</em> Ignazio. Perciò quello che era semplice divozione, ora è divenuto già debito di gratitudine, di replicare cioè a V<em>ostra</em> P<em>aternità </em>M<em>olto</em> R<em>everenda</em> la preghiera; per potere in così santo ministero consacrare a Dio questa vita, che egli per sua misericordia mi ha ridonata. A V<em>ostra</em> P<em>aternità</em> non posso presentare altri titoli che sincerità del desiderio, ed una sufficiente salute. Per le lingue, ed altro sono ancora al caso di applicarmici. Prego pertanto V<em>ostra</em> P<em>aternità</em> M<em>olto </em>R<em>everenda</em> a prendere nuovamente in considerazione questa mia domanda: e se al desiderio mio si aggiugnerà il beneplacito suo, avrò per indubitato il volere del Signore Iddio. Con ciò raccomandandomi a’ S<em>uoi</em> S<em>antissimi</em> S<em>acrifici</em> e chiedendole umilmente la paterna benedizione, mi ripeto con figliale riverenza ed ossequio</p>
