&lt;p&gt;Il padre Carlo M&lt;em&gt;ari&lt;/em&gt;a Curci oltre al desiderio di fare i S&lt;em&gt;anti &lt;/em&gt;Esercizi ha avuto un altro motivo da bramare la sua venuta in Roma, quello cioè di chiedere a voce dal M&lt;em&gt;olto &lt;/em&gt;R&lt;em&gt;everendo&lt;/em&gt; Padre Nostro la tanto sospirata grazia delle missioni estere. Questa Speranza di trattarne di presenza lo ha reso alquanto trascurato a scriverne per lo passato; egli nondimeno è stato sempre fermo nel desiderio significato a S&lt;em&gt;ua &lt;/em&gt;P&lt;em&gt;aternità&lt;/em&gt; con due lettere una del 1830. l’altra del 1832. Per questo ha egli studiate ed insegnate con qualche impegno straordinario le matematiche, ed avutane la opportunità da’ Superiori anche alquanto di lingua cinese, ed inglese. Avendo poi considerate seriamente nel cospetto di Dio N&lt;em&gt;ostro&lt;/em&gt; S&lt;em&gt;ignore&lt;/em&gt; quali motivi lo determinino a questo desiderio gli pare, che questi tre siano i principali&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;1.° Il desiderio della propria perfezione parendogli, che sia un gran mezzo per ricevere maggiore abbondanza di grazie il lasciare affatto patria, parenti, amici, quanto sa, e può sperare in questo mondo, non ritenendo per se, che il solo amore e fiducia in Dio. 2° Il desiderio di faticare e patire molto pei prossimi pe’ quali tanto ha faticato e patito Cristo N&lt;em&gt;ostro&lt;/em&gt;S&lt;em&gt;ignore&lt;/em&gt; 3.° Una speranza dolcissima di giungere a dar la vita per chi diella per amor Suo. Non è però, che egli non vegga quanto immeritevole sia di questa grazia pe’ molti e gravi suoi difetti più forse a’ Superiori noti, che non a lui; ma egli confida nell’ajuto di Dio che dandogli questo desiderio gli darà altresì grazia da compiergli: nel patrocinio di S&lt;em&gt;an&lt;/em&gt;Francesco Sav&lt;em&gt;erio&lt;/em&gt; cui ha preso per ispecial protettore in questo affare, e nella cui festa si è serbato di avvanzare questa veramente per lui troppo ardimentosa domanda: nella virtù della S&lt;em&gt;anta&lt;/em&gt; Obbedienza, alla quale egli non crede di&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
