Sa che nella Pentecoste del 1830 ebbi quel forte impulso di chiedere la missione del Paraguay, che per la Pentecoste del 1831, la chiesi a Vostra Paternità, facendole come in un quadro il ritratto di tutto me stesso: che anco gli anni appresso fui mosso sovente a scriverlene. L’ultima volta che ne parlai con Vostra Paternità saranno circa due mesi, mi fece intendere che per ora non vi pensassi. Non vi pensai, anche per obbedienza: quand’Ecco Martedì scorso, che fu il 24, mentre era al Ma[…]o coi Fratelli novizj, tutto ad un tratto mi balenò nell’animo un vivissimo lume, che mi spingeva gagliardamente il desiderio a Buenos Ayres. M’avvidi che eravamo nella terza festa della Pentecoste; sicchè dissi fra me: che cosa è questa? E poi stetti in pace. Offersi tutte le Messe fino ad oggi anche per questo motivo, e mi determinai a comunicare a Vostra Paternità, quanto m’avvenne. E noti di più; che i patimenti, specialmente dell’anno scorso, m’hanno indebolito l’anima, e il corpo, e l’idea della missione mi rattrista: tuttavia se Vostra Paternità, mi dicesse: Andate domani a Genova per imbarcarvi, mi pare che volerei, e l’animo, e il corpo tornerebbe vigoroso più che mai, poiché il viaggiare sia per terra sia per mare, mi giova mirabilmente.
