Relazioni fedeli ho avuto da più parti, come i semi d'incredulità hanno germogliato anche tra le genti più semplici: la Confessione essere inventione de' preti, l'usare alla chiesa [...], le comunioni e i digiuni superstizioni; senza parlare del disprezzo del sommo Pontefice, dell'indocilità verso l'autorità civili con tutto quel seguito del Sistema liberale, che si è predicato, e più o meno ha preso piede da per tutto.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;Questa pianta sì rea, che crescere e mette radici tanto rapidamente, quanto più si lascerà raffermare, tanto più riuscirà difficile a svellersi. È però, che mi parrebbe necessario uscire alle missioni campestri con modi tanto più apostolici, quanto maggiore è in questi tempi il disprezzo verso i ministeri sacerdotali. Mosso da queste riflessioni, e dall'impulso, che molte volte me ne ha dato il Signore, io mi fo ardito di supplicare V&lt;em&gt;ostra&lt;/em&gt; P&lt;em&gt;aternità&lt;/em&gt; a volermi destinare per la prossima stagione d'inverno a queste missioni di farsi a piedi ed elemosinando.
