<p>Ciò che non mi fù possibile sottometterle a voce, mentre avemmo dal Signore la consolazione di godercela quì fra noi, ho creduto farlo per iscritto. Io non mi sento ligato alla mia terra natale da alcun vincolo, il quale mi possa impedire la libertà di portarmi fino ne' confini del mondo, se a Dio N<em>ostro</em> S<em>ignore</em> piacesse, ad illuminare del lume benefico della fede quelle nazioni che ne fossero prive; io feci questo distacco e questo sacrificio quando il Signore, (certo per Maria S<em>antissim</em>a nostra Sig<em>no</em>ra) si degnò chiamarmi alla Compagnia, dacendomi cessare dallo intrapreso corso di medicina, di cui circa due anni studiai le teorie più generali. L'unico impedimento che io trovo si è la pochezza di virtù; ma quando Iddio mi volesse missionario saprebbe fare. È questa la disposizione del mio spirito, la quale ho voluto non sia ignota alla Paternità V<em>ostra</em>.
