&lt;p&gt;Un affetto veramente che da gran tempo tengo chiuso nel cuore mi spinge a non lasciarmi sfuggire questa bella occasione in manifestarle i sentimenti dell'animo mio. Da parecchi anni mi sento acceso d'un vivissimo desiderio di spendermi tutto per la salvezza delle anime e per la gloria di Dio nelle apostoliche fatiche delle estere missioni; e posso affermare alla P&lt;em&gt;aternità&lt;/em&gt; V&lt;em&gt;ostra&lt;/em&gt; M&lt;em&gt;olto&lt;/em&gt; R&lt;em&gt;everenda&lt;/em&gt; questo essere stato il principale motivo che, dietro i consigli di saggie persone, mi determinò ad entrare nella Compagnia meglio che in verun'altra Religione. Sono pur grandi i travagli ed i pericoli che hanno a correre i missionarj; con tutto ciò nel leggerli o nelle Storie del P&lt;em&gt;adre&lt;/em&gt; Bartoli, o nelle lettere che di colà hanno inviate, e vanno tuttavia inviando i missionarj, non pure non mi sento disanimare, ma sì eziandio accendere di nuovo ardore, e me beato vo chiamando, se venissi fatto degno di spargere il sangue per la Fede e per la gloria del mio Gesù. Sono è vero sprovvisto di virtù e di que' molti requisiti che si richieggonoa pel più divino dei divini ministeri; ma la mia stessa miseria più e più mi conforta, ben sapendo, che non di rado Iddio benedetto &lt;em&gt;infirma mundi elegit ut confundat fortia, et ignobilia mundi et contemptabilia, et ea quae non sunt, ut ea quae sunt destruerat&lt;/em&gt;; che &lt;em&gt;non est abbreviata manus Domini&lt;/em&gt;; e che se Iddio colà mi vuole, mi sarà anche largo de' suoi divini favori, da poter dire &lt;em&gt;omnia possum in eo qui me confortat&lt;/em&gt;.
