Le relazioni dei Missionarj, principalmente di quelli della nostra Compagnia, che sentiva leggere in Malta mia patria nei benedetti Annali della Propagazione della Fede, mi accesero una grande brama di concorrere ad un'opera di tanta gloria di Dio non solo col mio obolo, che non lasciava mai di pagare, ma più colla mia opera, fidando nell'ajuto di quel Signore che si serve di ciò che vi ha di più vile per le opere maggiori di sua gloria. Fu questo il motivo precipuo che mi determinò ad abbracciare questo Santissimo istituto, di cui mi conosco indegnissimo di portar le divise ed il nome; ma che amo teneramente, e al di cui servizio (che è poi quello di Dio) vorrei sacrificarmi tutto, e dare se fosse bisogno il mio sangue e la vita. Posso sperare, Padre mio, questa grazia così grande, di esser mandato alle missioni? Temo che il Signore non me privi per la mia indegnità, giacchè tanta grazia non suol darsi che ad anime elette, dotate di eroica virtù, ed io sono sì miserabile si pieno di difetti e di passioni non mortificate. Ma questa grazia la desidero con tutto il cuore, ed è l'argomento delle più calde preghiere, che indirizzo al mio Dio. Mi mandi V&lt;em&gt;ostra&lt;/em&gt; P&lt;em&gt;aterni&lt;/em&gt;tà dove vuole: eccomi nelle sue mani: non rifuggo da pericoli e da patimenti.
