Un tal desiderio si è molto aumentato dopo che ho inteso dal Padre Fenwick Americano le gravissime urgenze di detti Stati per ciò che spetta la Religione. Scrivono di colà, come sarà ben noto alla Paternità Vostra Molto Reverenda, che copiosissima è la messe, ma pochissimi sono gli operaj, e quindi pregano e scongiurano che ai Nostri Americani che d'Europa ritornano in America, altri si aggiungano Europei a beneficio spirituale di tante anime che vanno a perire per difetto di chi le assista e le curi. Ma quale ajuto potrò dar io che sono e debole di corpo, e poverissimo di spirito, e ignorante di più del linguaggio usato in quelle Provincie? A questa difficoltà, che non è piccola, ho molto pensato, e finalmente ho risposto così: Questo è un negozio che tutto dipende dalla Divina Vocazione: se Dio mi vuole a travagliare in quelle missioni, mi darà anche le forze sì spirituali che corporee per sostenere i pesi di tal Ministero. Ora il mezzo sicuro a conoscere il Divino volere sì in questo che in qualunque altro particolare, è il sentimento del Superiore; adunque (ho conchiuso) se ne scriva alla Paternità Vostra, e quello che Ella in Domino giudicherà sarà il più certo testimonio del Divin Beneplacito. Con questo discorso mi son determinato di avanzare alla medesima Paternità Vostra l'istanza per le Missioni d'America, come difatti le avanzo ed umilio mediante la presente. Spero che Vostra Paternità, vorrà accoglierla benignamente, mentre essa non muore che da puro desiderio di conoscere e di eseguire la Volontà di Dio, ed è fatta di più con animo totalmente tranquillo e rassegnato.
